Dr. Vahit Ozmen is a Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery, at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Istanbul University, and Chairman of the Breast Center, Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital. He is also a Board Member of the Turkish Cancer Institute, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Senologic International Society (SIS).

After graduating from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine started to work as a resident in the Department of Surgery and continued his academic career at the same faculty. He was invited as a post-doctoral fellow by Tulane University School of Medicine in 1989 and returned to his faculty in 1991.  He also worked as a visiting professor and gave lectures in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Mayo Clinics, and Tokai University, Japan for short periods. He has an honorary diploma and medal from the Bulgarian Surgical Society to promote breast health care in Bulgaria. He is the founder and past-president of the Turkish Federation of Breast Disease Societies, Istanbul Breast Society, and founder and Honorary President of The Breast Health Society.

Dr. Ozmen is Editor-in-Chief in the European Journal of Breast Health and Surgical Science, and Academic Editor of the PLOS ONE, International Journal of Surgical Oncology and Cureus Journals. He has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, over 200 presentations in scientific meetings, more than 50 chapters in textbooks. He received research grants from the BHGI, GeneCore, Roche Oncology, and Novartis Oncology. He is also the editor of the Textbook of Breast Diseases and Breast Cancer in Turkey. He also received many prizes for his researches and studies.

Dr. Ozmen was principal investigators of many granted prospective clinical trials such as Bahcesehir Organized Population-Based Mammography Screening Project (2008-2018), and Breast Cancer Registry Program in Turkey.

Atilla Soran,MD, MPH, FNCBC, FACS  is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Soran is the Director of the Breast Disease Clinical Research Program, Comprehensive Lymphedema Program and International Breast Fellowship Program, and served as the Associate Medical Director, UPMC International Oncology Development previously. Dr. Soran has a long history of serving as a chair or a being a member on many scientific research committees such as The American Society of Breast Disease, The American Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Symposium Program, and NCBC International Program. Dr. Soran was appointed as a Board Member the NCBC in 2015 and International Committee Chair in 2016 and he also serves as a member of other prestigious associations such as American College of Surgeons. Dr. Soran has more than 160 publications, over 200 presentations in scientific meetings, and has more than 50 review articles and chapters in textbooks. Dr. Soran has received 39 national and international awards and honors. Dr. Soran is on the editorial board and reviewer in several medical journals. Dr. Soran was invited to several scientific meetings all over the world as a lecturer and moderator. Dr. Soran has conducted several clinical studies and received grants for his research. He has been recognized as an investigator by the National Cancer Institute in the USA and he has been serving a DOD- Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs for Breast Cancer as a panel member for more than 10 years; he also initiated several studies internationally and is being chaired them. Dr. Soran initiated a new program first time in the World entitled “Lymphedema Screening, Early Detection and Intervention/Prevention Program. He is world well-known surgeon for the study of surgery for metastatic breast cancer. More than 80 international physicians have been trained by him in his program; Dr. Soran provides scholarship to international scientists while they are working as a research scientist in the USA.

In addition doing workshops internationally, in 2020 he founded the  Breast Health Working Group Internationally and since then he is the chair of the group and he leads the breast health tumor board international every week. He has created very competitive scholarship in the Turkish National Surgical Society. He is currently Charing Senologic International Society Education and clinical trial committee and NCBC abstract committee. He is the editor in the European Journal Breast Health.

Alexander Mundinger was born in Freiburg, Germany. After his school education in Freiburg, he studied Medicine and received accreditation in internal medicine and radiology. His habilitation at the University of Freiburg focussed on MRI and rheumatic disorders. Professor Alexander Mundinger is head of the Department of Radiology at the academic Niels-Stensen Clinics; Marienhospital Osnabrück since October 1995, where he earned a reputation in senology, general radiology, interventional radiology and cardiac MRI. In addition, Professor Mundinger was director of the Radiological Center of Niels-Stensen-Clinics and head of the Section of Breast Imaging and Minimal Invasive Procedures in the certified Breast Centre Osnabrück located in Franziskus Hospital in Georgsmarienhuette. He held the position of President from 2005 to until the end of 2011 at the International Breast Ultrasound School (IBUS), and continues on the IBUS Executive Council in the capacity of Chairman of the Executive Alumni. After having served on the board of Senologic International Society (SIS) as Vice President for Europe Professor Mundinger served as President of SIS for the tenure of 2015-16 and continues acting as auditor of SIS. Professor Mundinger serves as German national consensus expert in all imaging. Since 2020 he has dedicated himself exclusively to breast imaging modalities and interventions.

Dr. Banu Arun is Professor in Department of Breast Medical Oncology, Co-Medical Director of the Clinical Cancer Genetics Program and Section Chief Breast Genetics, Prevention and Screening at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her research focuses on identifying risk biomarkers for breast cancer and prevention, and characterizing risk factors in a cohort of high-risk women with hereditary gene mutations (BRCA and others) as well as assessing breast cancer biology in these patients. She has served as the Principal Investigator on several clinical trials evaluating agents such as letrozole, imatinib, gemcitabine, R115777 and PARP inhibitors for metastatic breast cancer (including BRCA positive,) and celecoxib, atorvastatin and dasatinib in short-term breast cancer prevention trials. Her research also include outreach and education. As well as cascade genetic testing of family members.

Given her national and international expertise she has served in several committees, including The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Prevention committee and currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) Prevention and Epidemiology Committee and member of the NCCN Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Guideline Committee, member of the ASCO BOLD task force, member of ASCO Prevention Education committee, and member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Prevention Steering Committee. She served as grant reviewer for Susan Komen and NCI P01 and reviewed for journals including JCO, Cancer, BMJ, Cancer Prevention and Epidemiology, amongst others. She has more than 200 peer reviewed publications and received research grants from the NCI, Susan Komen Foundation and CPRIT.

She was also featured in Forbes (December 2017) as one of the top 30 Breast Medical Oncologists in the United States. She has also received FASCO award recognition in 2020 from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Baṣak Dogan, M.D., FSBI, is Associate Professor of Radiology and Eugene P. Frenkel Endowed Scholar in Clinical Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she serves as a member of its Breast Imaging Division and the Director of Breast Imaging Research.

Dr. Dogan earned her medical degree at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, and completed her residency training in diagnostic radiology at Ankara University Medical School. She received advanced training in breast imaging through a fellowship program at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2016, she was an associate professor at MD Anderson, where she also served as Medical Director of the MD Anderson Ben and Julie Rogers Main Campus Breast Diagnostic Clinic.

Dr. Dogan’s research interests include advanced breast magnetic resonance imaging applications, optoacoustic imaging, and microbubble contrast-enhanced ultrasound of sentinel lymph nodes. She has authored or co-authored more than 67 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and book chapters and is frequently an invited speaker at many national and international conferences.

In addition to serving UT Southwestern as a member of the Cancer Committee, she is also a member of the Radiology Department’s Research Day Abstract Review Committee. Nationally, she serves on the National Cancer Comprehensive Network and the American Society of Clinical Oncology's TCGA/TCIA Breast Research Group.

She is an active member of several professional societies, including the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the College of American Radiology, and she is a Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging.


Erkin Arıbal

Erkin Aribal is a Professor in the Radiology Department of Acibadem M.A.A. University Hospital. He is the head of the Breast Imaging Unit of Acibadem Altunizade Hospital, member of the Multidisciplinary Breast team, and member of the Oncology Board. He is one of the founders of Marmara Breast Center in 2001. He was the president of Breast Imaging Group of Turkish Radiologic Society from 2011to 2013. He is in the Breast Cancer advisory board of Ministry of Health in Turkey and advisor for the National Breast Screening Project. Prof. Aribal has authored or co-authored more than 100 refereed journal or full conference proceedings papers. He is also a founder and member of SenaTurk Academy, which is an initiative aiming to develop teaching materials and programs for horizontal and perpendicular integrated education for breast health. He is a executive board member of Breast Health Society (Memeder) which is a NPO with members from breast cancer survivors and scientists who are specialised in breast cancer.  Memeder has executed the first population-based breast screening program in Bahcesehir, Turkey which became a prototype for a nation based program. He is the current president of International Breast Imaging School (IBUS) which is centered in Zurich.


Fatma Aktepe

Dr. Aktepe is Professor of Pathology, Memorial Hospital, Istanbul. Her main scientific interests are on breast pathology, uropathology, molecular pathology and digital pathology. In recent years, Dr. Aktepe has been working especially on tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in breast cancers.

Dr.Aktepe graduated from Anadolu University Medical School. She completed her residency in Pathology Ankara Oncology Hospital. She conducted many projects supported by TUBİTAK. She worked in Pathology Department in Osaka University for 3 months to develop her skills in molecular pathology. She was at the Department Pathology, Ghent University in 2010 as part of Erasmus exchange program on breast pathology.


Güldeniz Karadeniz Çakmak

Dr. Karadeniz Cakmak is Professor of Surgery at Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University, School of Medicine since 2010. She earned her M.D. from Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical School in 1999 and worked in Breast Surgical Service in 2012 and Plastic-Reconstructive Surgery Department in 2018 as an invited international scholar at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA.

Since 2014 she is the Chief of the General Surgery Department and Breast and Endocrine Unit. Dr. Karadeniz Cakmak is acting as the chief of Surgical Sciences Division since 2020. She is the founding president of Western Black Sea Region Breast Diseases Association and serving as the president since 2017. Dr. Karadeniz Cakmak had European Board of Surgery Qualification in Breast Surgery and accepted as a fellow of The American College of Surgeons in 2017. The American College of Surgeons (ACS)/American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) International Scholarship was awarded to Dr. Karadeniz Cakmak in 2018.

She had research grants funded by Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Dr. Karadeniz Cakmak has been serving as a member of Research Ethics Committee since 2010. Her research interests include breast cancer, oncoplastic breast surgery, intraoperative breast ultrasound and sentinel node mapping. Her laboratory and clinical research include surgical treatment modalities for locally advanced breast cancer and neoadjuvant treatments. She has collaborated in several national and international multicenter trials and authored more than 50 scientific research papers and presented numerous papers, lectures and workshops nationally and internationally.


Gürsel Soybir

Dr. Soybir is Professor of Surgery at the İstanbul Memorial Hospital since 2014. He was trained in general surgery in İstanbul Taksim Research Hospital, and studied as a research fellow in the same hospital. He settled Taksim Hospital Experimental Research Laboratory.  He was associate Professor and cheif assistant in Haseki Research Hospital for ten years. He was the founder of General Surgery and also Breast Surgery departments in Namık Kemal University in Tekirdağ, and worked as Professor of Surgery for 4 years. He also established Breast Cancer Research Unit in the university and Assocciation of Tekirdağ Breast Disease.

Since 20014, he is working as professor of breast surgery in Istanbul Memorial Hospital. Prof. Soybir also worked as fellow or visiting surgeon for different periods in different breast disease units of the World such as; Nothingham City Hospital, England; MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA; Kameda Endoscopic Breast Surgeyi Unit, Japan; Pittsburgh Magee Women Hospital Oncoplasitc Breast Surgery Unit, USA; and Dusseldorf, European Academia of Senology, Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, Germany.

Dr. Soybir is the fellowship of American College of Surgeons since 2001. He was one of the founders of the Turkish Chapter of American College of Surgeons and also the general secretary of that society for two years.

Dr. Soybir has been certified by Turkish Surgical Board in 2003. He won a lot of Scientific Research Prizes in different national and international congress.

He has been the member of the Turkish Federation of Breast Disease Associations and also Society of Istanbul Surgery.

He was the general secretary of Turkish Journal of Surgery for 6 years. He has been in the editorial board of several national and international journals in different periods. He is the Assistant Editor of European Journal of Breast Health since 2012.

He has a lot of medical books and book chapters. He is colloborated in several scientific publications, oral and poster presentations. He has been advisor for a lot of assistant thesis. He has been assigned for a lot of times as panelist, lecturer, moderator or member of organizing congress committee.

He is the members of a several national and international scientific medical societies Dr Soybir’s main interests are breast cancer, breast surgery, oncoplastic breast surgery and endoscopic breast surgery.


Ismail Jatoi

Dr. Ismail Jatoi is Professor and Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas.   He is the holder of the Dale H. Dorn Endowed Chair in Surgery.  Dr. Jatoi obtained his undergraduate bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his MD and PhD degrees from St. Louis University.  He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He completed fellowship training in surgical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, England.  Dr. Jatoi was formerly a Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, and continues to hold an Adjunct Professor appointment at that institution.  Dr. Jatoi has had a longstanding interest in breast cancer local therapy and adjuvant systemic therapy, the management of women at increased risk for breast cancer, and breast cancer screening.  He also has an interest in the design and analysis of cancer clinical trials.   Dr. Jatoi has previously served on the Breast Cancer Executive Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG).  He is the co‐Principal Investigator of the NRG Oncology effort at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and serves on the national NRG Oncology Breast Cancer Committee and Working Group.  Dr. Jatoi serves on the Executive, Planning, and Abstract Review Committees of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS), and was Interim Co‐Director of the SABCS in 2014.

Dr. Nuran Beşe is a Professor in radiation oncology at the Clinical Senology Department of Acibadem Research Institute of Senology..

Her training as a M.D and radiation oncologist was completed in Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical School. During her education in radiation oncology, she was awarded British Council Scholarship and worked as a visiting clinician in Royal Marsden Hospital/Sutton. She worked as a consultant for the development of radiation oncology in member states in International Atomic Energy Agency/ Vienna in 2006. She became Associate Professor in 2000 and Professor in 2006.

She has participated in the preparation of many national and international breast cancer guidelines and she has more than 110 national and international publications. Currently she is the head of Turkish Radiation Oncology Society, Breast Cancer Working Party.

Dr. Osman Zekioğlu is Professor of Pathology at Ege University, Faculty of Medicine. He has graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Medical School in 1992. He completed his residency in Pathology in Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. He studied gynecologic pathology in Pathology at Ege University between 2000-2004. He served as a member of the board of the Ege Pathology Association between 2004-2008. His scientific interests mainly relate to breast, and gynecologic pathology.

Tibor Tot is associate professor of pathology at Uppsala University and consultant pathologist/former head of Pathology & Cytology Dalarna at the County Hospital in Falun, Sweden. He is past chair of the European Society of Pathology Breast Working Group and long-time faculty member in the breast pathology arm of the European School of Pathology. He is invited faculty member in European School of Radiology, one of the scientific directors in the European School of Oncology Certificate of Competence in Breast Cancer program, and external expert in the European Commission’s breast center certification working group. His main fields of interest are breast pathology, colorectal pathology and immunohistochemistry. He is repeatedly invited lecturer at international and national congresses, symposia, and teaching courses all over the world, author of co-author of textbooks, book chapters, and more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles.

Dr. Didier Verhoeven is medical oncologist working in AZ KLINA, Brasschaat, Belgium, He is head of the department Medical Oncology and Hematology.

He was a trainee of Prof. AT. Van Oosterom and is currently Clinical Director of the “Breast Clinic Voorkempen” which treated nearly 300 new cases of breast cancer a year. (Accreditation by EUSOMA since 2015)

Dr. D. Verhoeven defended his PhD. thesis about breast cancer: “Tumor cell proliferation and stromal changes in breast cancer” at the University of Antwerp in 1992. In addition he obtained a Master degree in medical and pharmaceutical research at the University of Brussels.

He wrote many papers about oncology especially about breast cancer in international and national peer reviewed journals. He is member of a lot of cancer societies. Although he is a real clinician, part of his work goes to data management and quality improvement programs. 1/11/2014 he was appointed as guest professor medical oncology (topic: Quality in Oncology) at the University of Antwerp.  February 2015 he was the driving force and chair of the 5the International Congress of Breast Disease Centers in Antwerp. In 2018 Oxford University Press accepted his book: “Breast Cancer : Global Quality Care ” for publication (14/11/2019 ) ( co-editors : C.Kaufman, US, R.Mansel, UK and S.Siesling, The Netherlands ; with extensive book review in ASCO-Post, 2020 ). November 2019 he was the chair and local responsible for the organisation of the 3the International Oncology Leadership Conference in Antwerp.
